SURRY COUNTY, N.C. – The Surry County Sheriff's Office says a deputy shot and killed an armed man.
The sheriff's office said a local VA hospital requested someone check on James Franklin Ransom, 55, on Creed Road. The sheriff's office said they received a call from Ransom's address earlier from a man who hinted at suicide.
When a deputy visited Ransom's home, Ransom had a gun. The sheriff's office said Ransom refused to drop the weapon. The deputy shot Ransom. He died on scene.
According to the sheriff's office, Ransom had a history of aggressive behavior against law enforcement.
