ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. -- Rowan County Sheriff's Deputies have arrested a man, again, in connection with drug trafficking activities in the Salisbury area. Additionally, authorities say the man's pregnant girlfriend was found with 12 grams of black tar heroin.

Investigators in Rowan County say received information about a known heroin trafficker making frequent trips to an area of Charlotte known to be a distribution point for the drug.

Acting upon that information, authorities set up surveillance in the 3200 block of Patterson Road in Salisbury, the home of 19-year-old Brandon Lee Rumple and his girlfriend 25-year-old Tasha Nicole Simpson.

On Wednesday, investigators saw a green Honda that was driven by Simpson with Rumple in the passenger seat, leave the home. Continuing on with with their surveillance, officials followed the vehicle.

The Sheriff's Office says Rumple and Simpson must have caught on to the fact that they were being watched because officers observed Rumple dumping a powdered substance out the window, and then throw a plastic bag out on the street.

Then, Simpson began violating numerous traffic laws before pulling up to a home in the 500 block of Carter Street. When the vehicle stopped, authorities say Rumple jumped out and threw a bag to a man, now identified as Rumple's father, Todd Rumple, who immediately went inside and shut the door. Todd later admitted to deputies that he flushed the bag down the toilet.

Deputies were able to recover the bag thrown from the car, as well as powder from Brandon's face, clothing and the side of the vehicle. Officials have identified that substance as MDMA.

A search of the Honda turned-up about $1200 in cash, authorities say.

A search of Simpson's person led deputies to 12 grams of black tar heroin, stashed away in Simpson's crotch, the Sheriff's Office says.

Brandon Rumple is charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver MDMA, Resist, delay and obstruct a public officer, alter and destroy evidence and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $2.5 million.

Simpson, who is more than eight months pregnant, is charged with two counts of trafficking heroin, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver heroin, fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement and possession of drug paraphernalia. Her bond was set at $250,000.
