THOMASVILLE, N.C. -- An operation to find people involved with smuggling cash and illegal drugs in Davidson County proved to have big results according to Thomasville Police.
From Monday, April 21 through Thursday, April 24, officers said they held the operation along Interstate 85 in Davidson County. The operation included the Winston-Salem Office of Homeland Security Investigations, Thomasville Police, and the Davidson County Sheriff's Office.
As a result, officers said they seized
· Approximately $52,068.00 cash contained in 11 bundles
· 30 fake U.S. Treasury Refund Checks worth about $55,226.00
· Approximately 61 pounds of marijuana
According to federal law, the assets seized may be rewarded back to law enforcement for equipment and training purposes, which in turn saves local tax dollars.
Thomasville Police says all violators are facing charges of narcotic violations and fraud violations. The cases will be taken to the Davidson County District Attorney's Office for prosecution or referral to the U.S. Attorney's Office of the Middle District.
