GREENSBORO, N.C. - As President Obama thanked troops and honored the fallen at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Amanda Sheek was right there to remember her son.
Sheek was invited to sit near the President in Arlington Monday for the annual Memorial Day ceremony.
Her son, Lance Corporal Jacob Levy of Randolph County, was shot and killed in Afghanistan in 2011.
Sheek says her son would have appreciated the honor.
"It really hit home," she said. "Because that was something that my son wanted to do once he got finished with the infantry and combat part was either to be one of the guys walking the tomb or be on presidential detail."
Sheek spoke to Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel. She urged him to add a military memorial wall inside the White House as a reminder of sacrifices made.
