WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. --Maya Angelou had a way of seeing the humanity in everyone. From presidents to friends she called family, they all turned to her for strength.

The Impact Maya Angelou Left On Her Friends

Saturday WFMY News 2 talked to several people from the Triad who were at the service.

All of them had been touched by Maya in some way.

Pastor Frederick O. Bass at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church says Angelou helped his church church when it was completely under water.

"It was completely exemplifying what she said and did," Bass said.

He said the last thing he says at a cemetery is " they may rest from their labors but their works do follow them." Bass believes Angelou's works and legacy will continue to live on.

Bob Brown, who was a good friend of Maya Angelou, said she was an astounding and unbelievable woman. He said Saturday's funeral was very emotional.

"I remember all those things that they talked about with Dr. Maya Angelou," Brown said. "She must have said them to me thousands of times."

Angelou had a strong presence every where she went, but especially right here in North Carolina. She taught at Wake Forest for more than 30 years and received multiple honorary degrees.
