THOMASVILLE, N.C. – Community members in Thomasville participated in the "Cold Water Challenge" on Sunday.
Pastor Huey Turner with the Church of Tomorrow on Oaklawn Drive accepted the challenge in a Facebook video posted June 1.
Members gathered at the church after Sunday service. Firefighters with the Thomasville Fire Department drenched the crowd with cold water from their truck's hose.
Participants raised money for The Shepards Inn, the men's homeless shelter in Thomasville.
The Cold Water Challenge is a social media movement. If you are nominated for the challenge, you have 24 hours to film yourself getting soaked by cold water and donate $10 or $20 to the charity of your choice. The videos are uploaded to social media and five more people are nominated. If you don't complete the challenge, you have to donate $50 or $100 to the charity of the challenger's choice.
