WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Benton Convention Center will be getting a new look soon.
Winston-Salem Mayor Allen Joines told WFMY News 2 council approved $17.5 million to renovate the center in downtown.
Joines said the renovations are part of the city's 2014-15 capital budget and will help the convention center stay competitive with other convention centers in the state.
The renovations are set to start in the fall and will hopefully be completed within the next year according to Joines.
Benton will get new air-conditioning units, improved technology in meeting rooms, new carpets, better Wi-Fi, and changes to the building's exteriors.
