GREENSBORO – The Fourth of July Hoppers game included some extra action Friday night. Airman First Class Callie McGee surprised her family after the second inning on the field. Her parents haven't seen her since she joined the air force in September 2012.

"I'm missing one part of my family, my oldest daughter, my heart and soul, Callie Elizabeth McGee. She's station in England, just got back from a deployment in Africa," Callie's dad said before the surprise.

Callie wasn't supposed to return home until July 15, but made a plan to surprise her parents early at the NewBridge Bank Park. It's a McGee family tradition to go to a Grasshoppers' game on Independence Day.

"I hope it's not going to be a blur, but I'm going to be completely overwhelmed and filled with joy to see them after two years," Callie said.

The family was recognized at the game because Callie is a service member. A message from Callie played on the jumbo-tron and when her family turned around, Callie was walking out onto home base. When she reunited with her parents and sister, they were overcome with excitement, joy and shock. The crowd at the ball park gave Callie and her family a standing ovation.

"Their reaction, that's exactly what I wanted to see when I saw them for the first time," Callie said.

"I've been living for this moment, for over a year, I just wanted to hold her," her dad said.
