NORFOLK -- On a night when the skies were full of illegal fireworks and gunfire, 14 people were shot in four separate incidents in Norfolk.

A news release said none of the injuries were believed to be life-threatening.

In the release, a spokesperson for the Police Department provided this account of the incidents:

"The first call came in on 7-4-14 shortly before midnight at 1722 Thurgood Street. Several people were reportedly standing outside and shot by an unknown assailant. Three (3) adults and two (2) juveniles were transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with what appears to be non-life threatening injuries.

"The second call came in on 7-5-14 shortly after midnight at 9454 E. Virginia Beach Blvd. An adult female standing outside her home was shot by what appears to be random gunfire. She was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with what appears to be non-life threatening injuries.

"The third call came into Norfolk dispatch at 12:17 A.M. for a report of a gunshot victim in the 900 block of Bagnall Road. The adult female victim was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with what appears to be non-life threatening injuries.

"The fourth call occurred at 3:03 A.M. in reference to six (6) adults who walked into Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with non-life threatening gunshots wounds. The incident supposedly occurred at 861 W. 36th Street, when an unknown vehicle drove by and shot towards the bystanders. Shortly thereafter, a call came into Norfolk EOC to report a 7th adult gunshot victim who remained near the initial shooting location. The adult victim was located by police and transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with what also appears to be a non-life threatening gunshot wound."

The news release provided no witness or suspect accounts, nor any possible motives.
