EDEN, N.C. -- It's been a long 5 months for people along the Dan River.
Duke Energy released a statement Thursday saying the coal ash cleanup 2 miles downriver from the Dan River Steam Station near Eden is complete.
Crews took out 258 tons of coal ash over the last week and took it to a landfill in Person County.
Crews are still working to clean up the residue that traveled to Danville, Virginia. So far they've removed more than 2,000 tons of coal ash and sediment combined. Just this past week the North Carolina House passed a bill to clean up coal ash pits across the state.
