ELIZABETH CITY, NC (WVEC) -- A five-year-old boy was left alone in a van on the first day of school in Elizabeth City.
Michelle Wright with Cora's Educational Center said the driver was taking kids home Monday. At one point, Wright says, the child fell asleep in the backseat. She says the driver thought the van was empty.
"It's unacceptable," said Wright. "We are absolutely looking over our policies and making necessary changes."
A spokesperson with Pasquotank-Camden EMS said the child showed no signs of dehydration and appeared to be fine.
According to Wright, the child's parents drove to the school Monday afternoon after their son wasn't dropped off at their house.
Wright says the child was in the van for close to an hour before they found him. He was still asleep and buckled in.
No charges have been filed.
