According to a news release from police, several family members were at the fast food restaurant when the shooting happened.
RANDLEMAN, N.C.-- The McDonald's parking lot in Randleman turned into a crime scene Sunday afternoon after a grandfather was shot during the child custody exchange of a 7-year-old girl.
Police were dispatched to the restaurant around 4:47 p.m. and when they arrived, officers found David Laughlin with a gunshot wound to his left wrist. Laughlin was taken to Cone Hospital in Greensboro were he was treated and released.
According to a news release from police, several family members were at the fast food restaurant when the shooting happened. Police were told that an altercation started between the child's grandfather, Davids McLauglin, and the stepfather, Kyle Jennings. Laughlin allegedly hit Jennings in the face while was sitting in his car in the parking lot.
Jennings pulled out a handgun from the console of his vehicle and fired one shot, hitting Laughlin in the wrist, police said.
No one else was injured in the incident.
Kyle Jennings has been charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury.
David Laughlin has been charged with Simple Assault.
