High Point, N.C. -- Dancing is great for the heart, but this weekend ten High Point community members will prove dancing is also good for the soul! On Saturday, February 22, 2014 the local "celebs" will dance their heart out in the name of charity.
High Point's local stars will be paired with professional dancers from the Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Greensboro to raise money for Communities In Schools of High Point.
Last year's event was attended by 500 people and raised $45,000. The 2014 goal is $50,000 explained Leigh Anne Kasias, the event coordinator for the Dancing With The High Point Stars event.
The local dancers include Edith Brady (High Point Museum), Trent Cockerham (Hospice of the Piedmont), Shirley Cook (Community In Schools of High Point), Russ Edwards (Ralph Lauren), Whit Holbrook (Edward Jones), Cathy Kirby (High Point Starlight Dancers), Angela McGill (Housing Authority, City of High Point), Dona Nottoli (True Path Career Counseling), Scott Winslow (Northwood Elementary) and Busta Brown (TV/Radio Personality).
WFMY News 2's Tracey McCain is honored to be the event's co-emcee along with Jim Morgan, the event's winner in 2011.
Ticket sales and voting for your favorite local star will raise funds for Communities In Schools of High Point.
"Communities In Schools empowers students to stay in school and achieve in life," said the group's executive director, Wanda Stewart.
