GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The latest winter weather system continues to hit the Triad Friday morning, causing widespread power outages, electrical fires, downed trees, and car accidents.
Guilford 911 metro communications confirmed as of 5 a.m., there already were 33 reported electrical fires in the county. Some of those include electrical fires on Riverdale Road, High Knoll Place, Willow Road, Potter Drive, Rainbow Street and Overhill Loop.
The Winston-Salem Police Department and Randolph Co. EMS say similar situations are happening in Forsyth and Randolph County. A lieutenant with WSPD said, "Highways are just as bad as secondary roads."
Despite NCDOT's overnight continued icing of interstates, patches of ice remain on all roadways and are causing treacherous travel conditions.
Duke Energy reports thousands of power outages throughout the Triad.
Drivers are advised to avoid travel.
