Elon, N.C. -- The Western Alamance High School Band has practiced and raised money for months for this one moment.

The band is leaving for New York City on Friday, March 14, 2014 to take part in the historic St. Patrick's Day Parade on Monday, March 17, 2014.

Members of the marching band and their director Micheal Jefferson talked about the honor Monday on the Good Morning Show, just one week before their performance.

"This is the first major, national event they've participated in," said Jefferson. "We were excepted sometime around Christmas last year and we've been fundraising and practicing and getting ready ever since," he added.

And you could tell their excitement during the interview with WFMY News 2's Tracey McCain.

"We're playing nationally so it leaves a great trademark of our school and everyone gets to know who we are so that's the cherry on top for my high school career," said the band's drum captain.

The New York City St. Patrick's Day Parade is our country's oldest and proudest Irish tradition, marching for the first time more than 250 years ago in 1762; that's fourteen years before the Declaration of Independence.

There are more than 150,000 marchers each year and you can look for the Western Alamance High School band in the parade Monday, March 17, 2014 at 11 a.m. You can watch the live stream here.

And if you would like to support the band with a donation you can send those to WAZBB P.O. Box 62 Elon, N.C. 27244. Or you can visit them on the web at www.wazbb.org.

"Thank you guys so much for supporting us in this endeavor. It's a really great experience for all of us!"

Good luck Western Alamance High School! We're pulling for you!
