You can help change a child's life two different ways this summer.

Guilford County Schools, Guilford Education Alliance and the Guilford County Council of PTAs are asking for your help. They have created two different programs meant to encourage reading.

The first one involves volunteers reading to an elementary classroom for 30 minutes. If you volunteer, you can pick the location and time slot most convenient for your schedule.

Katie Sayani, the president of the Guilford County Council of PTAs says, "children love having guest readers in their classrooms, and it's a great way to see the wonderful things that are going on in our schools."

Reading to different classrooms is something you can do before the school year ends, but there's another way you can help during the summer. The Second Annual "Give 5, Read 5 Campaign" is asking folks to donate five new or gently used books to a local elementary school.

The "Give 5, Read 5 Campaign" helps kids use their imagination and avoid summer learning loss. Donations will be accepted at any GCS elementary school. Visit www.gcsnc.com or www.guilfordeducationalliance.org for more information on how you can help.
