A daycare in Greensboro is back open, for the first time since a garbage truck slammed into it last week.

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Childcare Network on Friendly Avenue reopened Monday, nearly a week since a trash truck slammed into its kitchen and caused extensive damage.

Monolito Vanstory, a parent of a Childcare Network student, told WFMY News 2, "I was just shocked when I pulled up and there [were] no lights on or anything, so I was just concerned... and I saw another parent pull up, and we were like, is it open?"

Vanstory said Monday the daycare seemed far less busy than usual, and he suspected many parents might be hesitant to take their children back to where the frightening incident occurred just last week.

"It's very concerning," he said. "And we want to make sure it's safe not only for the kids but for everyone else," he said.

The Childcare Network director Donnie Casterlow told WFMY News 2 Monday the building has been cleared by the city as "fully operational and safe." In a statement, the daycare's spokesperson Shonta Moore further explained, "Final repairs will continue and will not interfere with the learning or quality of care that we provide daily."

Casterlow explained representatives from Childcare Network's corporate office are scheduled to visit Monday to assess the damage.

The daycare has resumed normal operating hours of 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
