GREENSBORO, N.C. -- For more than a decade, Kyle Santillian hosted the top morning hip hop radio show in the Triad.

Santillian was part of your ride to work everyday, so it didn't take long for people to realize he wasn't on WJMH 102 JAMZ anymore.

People jumped on Twitter and Facebook with the same question: Where's Kyle?

Santillian talked with WFMY News 2's Tracey McCain about his exit from the radio station, his appreciation of the community and what's next.

To look to the future, you have to know the past. What's his story?

"When I left Jersey to come to North Carolina, I was just a kid trying to straighten out his grades. So to have the opportunity to be on the radio and to be able to do it for so long and to have the community behind me, the only thing I can say is thank you," he said.

A natural on the microphone, Santillian studied radio/TV broadcasting at Winston-Salem State University. An internship at WJMH led to a gig working nights and then mornings.

"I did the morning show, the Wild Wake Up Show for about ten and a half years. It's been a good run."

In fact, Santillian brought the morning show's signature name from nights to mornings. "We used the Wild Out on the night show so it came from nights with me."

Now, he's focused on www.Santillian.com and the organization he founded, the 5th Foot Foundation. The Foundation partners with Guilford County Schools to empower and inspire young people in the community.

Santillian has a loyal following. From his ties to WSSU, willingness to share personal, family stories on the microphone, and being a role model to kids, it's safe to say Santillian is a fixture in the community.

"I've always tried to be the person on air that I am at home. People get to really know who you are. For real! That's what I've always kind of worked for; is to have people know me for who I am," he said.

So what's next. Santillian says think BIG!

"Next is going to be something that I feel is big. I've had nothing but positive responses since I've departed. I've had some great conversations with some great people, so I can't really tell you what's next right now, but I feel like things are great and the direction I'm going to be in is going to be beautiful."

Santillian appreciates your support. He has no hard feelings and is looking forward to making new connections.
