GREENSBORO, N.C. --The Winter Storm is over for the Triad, but it left a lot of snow in its wake. Over the next several days the snow will continue to melt, and conditions on the roadways will gradually improve, but some problems will remain.

Lingering Hazards:

  • Dangerous travel on side streets until the snow and ice can melt away.
  • Black ice concerns during the morning even on roads that have been cleared.
  • These problems will linger into the weekend.

Overall, the storm was very significant in the Piedmont. This was the most snow the Triad has seen in the last decade. Not only that, snow / sleet / and freezing rain fell for 28 hours at Piedmont-Triad International from Wednesday afternoon into Thursday afternoon.

The Foothills saw the most snow with well over a foot in spots. Totals were generally lighter to the south and east with 8" in Winston-Salem, 7" in Greensboro, and 6" in High Point.
