UPDATE AS OF 1:25 p.m. -- All lanes on I-40 E have re-opened
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- A presumed weather-related accident on I-40 E at Elm Eugene (mile marker 221) happened shortly before noon Thursday, according to NC DOT's Triad Transportation Management Center. It shut down two right lanes and the exit ramp.
NC DOT traffic cameras showed traffic backed up for at least two miles, through the BUS 85 split.
Greensboro police said the accident involved a single car, and the person in the car complained of back pain. An ambulance arrived on scene at noon.
This accident was one of more than a dozen weather-related incidents reported by both NC DOT and Greensboro police this morning. None of the accidents have been reported as serious.
