Lakeland, Florida -- An English teacher at Central Florida Aerospace Academy was arrested Monday after police learned she was having a sexual relationship with one of her students.
Lakeland Police say they were alerted to the relationship by the 17-year-old boy's mother. Police say the mother found text messages between the victim and 29-year-old Jennifer Fichter in which she used two different aliases. After getting her son to confess the names were being used to cover the identity of his English teacher, she asked Fichter to come to their home to talk about it. It was then, the mother told police she allegedly admitted to the sexual encounters and professed her love for the boy.
In an interview with detectives, the victim admitted to his involvement saying that they met for sex a total of three times at the Reserve Apartments and three times at another location off of New Tampa Highway within the city limits. In addition, the victim admitted to having sex with Fichter numerous times outside the city's jurisdiction in Polk and Hillsborough counties. These incidents are currently under investigation by both agencies.
In a controlled phone call between the boy's mother and Fichter, police say Fichter admitted to having sex with the boy "20 or 30 times" and that at one time she had become pregnant with his child and had an abortion. She also said she wanted to have a relationship with the student and does not regret her actions.
Fichter was arrested at her home Monday night, and later transported to the Polk County Jail. She has been charged with six counts Unlawful Sexual Activity With A Minor.
