(Press Release from Billy Graham Rapid Response Team)

CHARLOTTE, N.C., -- Crisis-trained chaplains with the Billy Graham Rapid Response Team have deployed to Mayflower, Ark., following the deadly tornado that tore through the state Sunday. News reports indicate that there are more than a dozen confirmed deaths in Arkansas.

"We mourn with the thousands of families who lost loved ones or homes in such a violent way through the tornadoes that took place this past weekend," said Jack Munday, international director of the Billy Graham Rapid Response Team. "For many, life will never be the same as it was just 24 hours ago. Our chaplains will come alongside the survivors, helping with their emotional and spiritual needs as they seek to find a new version of normal."

Other potential locations for deployment are being assessed after 30 tornadoes struck seven states over the weekend, with additional damage from storms being reported today. "There is no shortage of tragedy, and many are in despair. We will continue to do our best to discern where our services and ministry are most needed," said Monday.

The team was last in Arkansas in 2008 following tornadoes in Clinton and Greers Ferry.

The Billy Graham Rapid Response Team has deployed to more than 40 tornado disasters since its inception, including the deadly twisters in Birmingham and Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Joplin, Mo., during the historic storm season of 2011.
