GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C.-- A Liberty mother was arrested Saturday evening on charges that she left her teenage son on the side of a Greenville road after an argument, authorities said.

Tiffany Eulalah Simmons, 34, of 115 Forestview Circle, was charged with unlawful neglect of a child, according to a warrant issued by the Greenville County Sheriff's Office.

A mother and her 13-year-old son were shopping for school supplies in Greenville when an argument broke out, said Deputy Drew Pinciaro, Sheriff's Office spokesman. The mother allegedly told her son to get out of the car and then drove off, Pinciaro said.

The boy walked for a couple of hours before calling a family member, who told him to look for a nearby house with the lights on, he said.

The Sheriff's Office received calls around 9:40 p.m. about the abandoned teen from the family member and the resident of an Old Farrs Bridge Road home where the boy knocked on the door, Pinciaro said.

The boy ended up in Greenville County. That's 21 miles away from the boy's home in Liberty.

Simmons was released this morning on a $10,000 bond, he said. Department of Social Services was called in regards to the child, who was released to the care of a family member.
