GREENSBORO, N.C. -- An investigation by North Carolina A&T University says a former adjunct professor did not trade grades for votes in his city council campaign last year.

The News & Record of Greensboro reported that Chancellor Harold Martin upheld a decision to "discharge" Jamal Fox for failure to get approval before running.

Provost Joe Whitehead Jr. said Fox will be allowed to work for the university again.

Fox defeated Jim Kee for a seat on Greensboro City Council. Kee complained to school officials shortly before the election and the school suspended Fox.

Fox says he wanted to clear his name.

He taught four political science classes last semester while running for council.

Whitehead said officials did not know Fox was running for council until Kee complained.
