THOMASVILLE, N.C. -- A tractor-trailer driver died after an accident Wednesday afternoon on I-85 in Davidson County.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol says the tractor-trailer was in the center lane, but merged into the left lane where a van was traveling. The van spun out of control. The tractor-trailer avoided hitting the van by traveling up an embankment, but hit several trees before catching on fire.
The driver died at the scene.
The accident caused crews to shutdown I-85 North at Mile Marker 102 near Thomasville. All lanes are now open.
