Washington, DC-- The pastor of America's largest church has spent this week in the nation's capital preparing for a Saturday night event at the Washington Nationals ballpark.
More than 40,000 people have bought tickets to hear Joel Osteen preach at what he calls "America's Night of Hope."
The pastor of Houston's Lakewood Church also has brought volunteers to help at facilities like the Capitol Hill Crisis Pregnancy Center, where church members spent Thursday folding baby clothes, painting and preparing pamphlets.
The center's director, Janet Durig, says she was "surprised, but also blessed" that the megachurch pastor would stop by the inner city ministry to expectant and new mothers.
Osteen also has delivered opening prayers this week in the US House and Senate.
