CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- It's all about life in the fast line as North Carolina roars forward with the month of May deemed as"Motorsports Month." After all, North Carolina's roots are rich with racing history.
On Thursday, Governor Pat McCrory made the proclamation official for race fans. The action will run hot on the track with the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race and the 55-th running of the Coca-Cola 600. Not only will it help generate an estimated economic impact of $230 million but it will also support 4,200 jobs.
McCrory stated in a news release, "This is the home place of racing, as far as Cup racing is concerned. Bruton came out here in 1960 and built this place and we've been running ever since," said Petty. "It's a big, big deal for racers. It's a big pride deal for all the teams because all the teams are around here. From a spectator standpoint, they've got a little bit of everything. They've got short track running. They've got dirt track running. They've got the big track running. They've got Nationwide and trucks. Over the two weeks, it's nothing but race, race, race."
He was joined by racing legend Richard Petty Motorsports owner and NASCAR Hall of Famer Richard Petty, and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Marcos Ambrose among others.
