GREENSBORO, N.C. -- March has returned, and that means one thing in the Triad: non-stop hoops.

The Women's ACC Tournament tipped off Wednesday at the Greensboro Coliseum, which means fans have once again converged on the city to get in on all the action.

The Gate City has hosted the Women's ACC Tournament 15 consecutive years and the Men's tournament for 25 years -- more than any other city. And, with numbers like these, the city has rightfully earned it's Tournament Town name.

"We've been coming about the last 7 or 8 years," said Stephen Gibson, a Maryland fan.

Gibson and many other fans say this is the perfect city, and the Greensboro Coliseum the perfect venue, for a tournament like this one.

"When the tournament is here, it's all about the tournament," said Greensboro Mayor Nancy Vaughan. "If you go to other venues in other cities, you'll just get lost in other events. I think once they come here and see that southern hospitality, they're going to want to stay here."

And, with rumblings of a possible move to another city from analysts and at least one new ACC coach, no one here in Greensboro thinks the tournament should call any other city home.

"Naturally as the footprint of the tournament expands, [the ACC is] going to want to go in other teams' bac

k yards," said Henri Fourrier of the Greensboro Convention and Visitors Bureau. "But no one does it better than Greensboro."
