GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the first time in program history, the UNCG men's golf team is headed to the NCAA Tournament as the Spartans received an at-large berth into the event Monday morning during the national televised selection show on the Golf Channel. The at-large selection marks the first time a UNCG team has earned such a berth since women's soccer was an at-large recipient in 2007. The Spartans are one of just two teams from the state of North Carolina to make the 81-team field (Wake Forest).

"I am very proud for our entire program, going back 30 years in our history," head coach Terrance Stewart said. "This bid is for all of those coaches and players that played a part building our program to where it is today. Our guys have worked very hard this year and are very deserving for the honor to keep playing. We are one of only two schools in the state of North Carolina to be selected is a great accomplishment and I am thrilled for all of our players."

UNCG is one of three Southern Conference teams to earn a berth into the NCAA Tournament and will head to the Auburn Regional at the Auburn University Club May 15-17. Joining the 60th-ranked Spartans in the regional is defending champion and No. 1 Alabama, No. 12 Virginia Tech, No. 13 Texas, No. 23 Auburn, No. 25 New Mexico, No. 36 BYU, No. 37 Kennesaw State, No. 48 Colorado, No. 49 Louisville, No. 62 California-Davis, Sam Houston State, St. John's and Alabama State.

The six 54-hole regional tournaments will all be conducted May 15-17. Thirteen teams and 10 individuals not on those teams will compete at three regionals (Raleigh, Eugene, San Antonio), while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams (Auburn, Columbia, Sugar Grove).

The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals. The finals will be conducted May 23-28 at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kansas with Wichita State acting as the host institution.

The Spartans finished the season third in the SoCon Tournament, their second-best finish in program history. Leading the way for UNCG is a trio of All-SoCon selections in junior Roy Dixon (Salisbury, N.C./Salisbury), sophomore Taylor Coalson (Dobson, N.C./North Surry) and freshman Carter Jenkins (Raleigh, N.C./Leesville Road), who also was named the SoCon Freshman of the Year.

The SoCon earned three bids into the NCAA Tournament as joining the Spartans in the field are automatic qualifier Georgia Southern and at-large recipient Chattanooga. This marks the fifth time in the last six seasons that the league has received multiple bids and the first time since 2010 that three teams qualified. That season, Georgia Southern, Furman and Chattanooga were all in the NCAA field.
