GREENSBORO, N.C. – Wake Forest baseball fell 5-3 to Georgia Tech on Tuesday in the play-in game of the 2014 ACC Baseball Championship.

Wake Forest (30-26) gave up five runs in the second inning and slowly chipped away at the lead but Georgia Tech (33-24) held on for the win. With the victory, the Yellow Jackets advance to pool play of the ACC Championship and will play top-seeded Miami on Tuesday. The loss eliminates Wake Forest from the ACC Baseball Championship.

Grant Shambley had a two-RBI pinch hit single while Matt Conway had two hits and an RBI. Evan Stephens, Conor Keniry, Conway and Nate Mondou all had two hits while Ben Breazeale walked three times. The three walks were a career-high for Breazeale.

Jack Fischer got the start and went 5.1 innings pitched and struck out three while giving up five runs. Max Tishman and Parker Dunshee pitched in relief for the Demon Deacons.

Georgia Tech took a 5-0 lead in the second inning as the Yellow Jackets recorded five runs on six hits all with two outs.

Wake Forest got on the board in the third inning as Conway singled through the middle to score Keniry. After Keniry singled with two outs and advanced to second on a wild pitch, Charlie Morgan walked to bring up Conway. Conway then edged a hit through the middle to score Keniry.

The Demon Deacons loaded the bases in the fourth inning with two outs but Georgia Tech got a strikeout to get out of the jam. Then with the bases loaded in the fifth inning, Shambley pinch hit for Kevin Jordan and sent an RBI-single up the middle to score two.

Georgia Tech threatened in the sixth as Daniel Spingola doubled to center field but the Deacs threw the runner out at home 8-6-2 for the second out of the game. Dunshee entered and got a fly out to extinguish the Yellow Jackets in the frame.

The Yellow Jackets kept Wake Forest from getting back into the game by turning a double play in the seventh and eighth innings while closing it out in the ninth for the win.

Daniel Spingola led Georgia Tech with two RBIs and went 3-for-4 on the day. Sam Clay earned the win while Dusty Isaacs got the save.
