WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Winston-Salem right-hander Frank Montas will suit up for the World Team in the 2014 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game, which will take place at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minn. on Sunday, July 13, as part of Major League Baseball's All-Star festivities.
The 21-year-old made his Dash debut on May 5, and he has posted a 3-0 record to go along with a 1.64 earned run average in nine starts. His ERA is tops in the Carolina League and 15th in Minor League Baseball during this span. Montas has also tallied 51 strikeouts in 55 innings.
The native of Sainagua, Dominican Republic, was named the Carolina League Pitcher of the Week for May 19-25, during which he carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning at Salem while striking out 11 batters.
Montas has pitched at least six innings in six of his last seven starts, with the lone exception a rain-shortened four-inning effort on Saturday against Salem.
Fellow White Sox farmhand Micah Johnson, who played with the Dash in 2013, will also participate in the Futures Game. The 23-year-old, who will suit up for the United States Team, is batting a combined .308 between Double-A Birmingham and Triple-A Charlotte this season.
Johnson, a native of Indianapolis, Ind., hit .275 with 22 stolen bases in 49 games with Winston-Salem in 2013. While making three stops in Chicago's farm system a year ago, he led Minor League Baseball with 84 stolen bases.
