GREENSBORO, NC -- The threat for severe thunderstorms has come and gone, but high winds will still be possible from the High Country into the Piedmont during the day Sunday.
A strong storm system will pull away from North Carolina during the day. As this happens, strong winds will wrap around the back side of the system and roar across the mountains.
A High Wind Warning is in effect for the mountains, where winds could gust as high 50 to 60 mph. In the foothills, a Wind Advisory is in place for winds that could gust over 40 mph. Even the Piedmont could see gusty winds above 30 mph throughout the day, which may be enough to down a few trees in spots.
Weather will dramatically improve heading into the work-week with abundant sunshine and high temperatures soaring into the 70's.
