CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- As tropical storm Hermine moves out of the Carolinas – we are taking a look at the damage left behind.
A large tree came crashing down in the south park neighborhood Friday.
“When it hit it shook the whole ground like an earthquake,” Susan Shevlin described.
Shevlin has been blind since the age of 16.
She described reading a book on her IPad, then darkness.“I heard a crack and a boom. And it was pretty simultaneously with the power just snapping off,” she said.
In fact, according to Duke Energy, the power snapped off for more than three thousand households across Charlotte.
Heavy rain caused slippery roadways and reports of car accidents. Luckily, the worst is over for us here in the Carolinas.
“I’m just grateful that it didn’t hit anybody’s house and it didn’t hurt anybody,” Shevlin said.
