DARE COUNTY, N.C. (WVEC) -- The National Weather Service confirms a tornado touched down at a campground in Hatteras early Saturday morning, injuring four people.
It happened at the Hatteras Sands Campground. Four people were transported to a local clinic in Avon, N.C. All injuries are said to be minor at this time.
NWS surveyors are working to determine the tornado's strength at this time.
Hotels in the area have started taking in people who were staying at the campground. Some damage to buildings in the area has been reported.
A tornado warning was in effect until 1:45 a.m. for the area.
