GREENSBORO, N.C. — Jessica Winters is a multi-skilled journalist and reporter for WFMY News 2. She joined the team in July 2018. Jessica is no stranger to the great state of North Carolina. She previously reported and anchored for WCTI NewsChannel 12 in New Bern. Notably, she covered Hurricane Matthew and the severe flooding left in its wake, especially in areas like Kinston.
The North Carolina coast has a special place in Jessica’s heart. But she’s happy to be in the middle of the state now - close to the beach and the mountains - what a score!
Jessica was formerly a morning anchor and producer in South Dakota for KNBN NewsCenter1. She lived only 30 minutes from Mt. Rushmore, which she says should be on everyone's bucket list. She also gained a newfound appreciation for motorcycles because of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
Jessica was born and raised in Boston, but don’t expect her to have the accent. She received her Bachelor’s in Broadcast Journalism from Suffolk University. She interned at New England Cable News (NECN) where she was chosen to go live once a week in the Boston market as a student reporter. Jessica also interned on-air for the New England Sports Network (NESN) and Boston radio station WGBH.
Jessica loves helping people through storytelling. One of her first stories at WFMY News 2 uncovered a North Carolina woman who felt her First Amendment rights were being violated because the NC DMV denied her specialty plate for 'discriminatory reasons.' Jessica got the story out and was able to reverse the DMV’s decision.
If you have a story you want to share please let Jessica know. When you see her out and about be sure to say hello. She's kind of a 'chatty Cathy.'
