GREENSBORO, N.C. — Marissa Tansino joined WFMY News 2 in June of 2019 as a multi-skilled journalist. Born and raised right outside of Boston, Mass., Marissa has aspired to be a broadcast journalist ever since she can remember. Her aspirations began when her parents started taking home videos of her at her kitchen table pretending to be a news anchor at the early age of five.
After graduating high school, Marissa took her passion for storytelling to the Ocean State at the University of Rhode Island. She began her career as a journalist writing for the school newspaper, The Good 5 Cent Cigar. During her junior year of college, she interned at WJAR in Providence where she learned the skills that helped her begin producing a weekly newscast as a spinoff to the newspaper called 5 Cent Cigar News.
Those skills helped her jumpstart her professional career at WMBF News in Myrtle Beach, where she spent two years covering court cases, crime, and construction. She also covered Hurricane Florence, it’s aftermath, and the community’s rebuilding process once floodwaters receded.
When she’s not out on the job, Marissa enjoys traveling, hiking, and going to the gym. Although she is a Boston girl at heart, she is excited to continue her career in the Carolinas exploring the Triad and getting to know the community.
