WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Heart and Home, a philanthropic group in Winston-Salem, set out to raise money to donate meals to local charity groups.
The group raised $800 and made their first donation to the Ronald McDonald House of Winston-Salem.
Mindy Bloom with the Ronald McDonald House said donated meals mean everything to families staying with them.
"Our families come back from the hospital and the news isn't always great. You couple that with the COVID situation, and it is not great all the time. For them to be served a meal, given to them by complete strangers out of the goodness of their heart just makes them feel so wonderful and it truly gives them a little bit of solace and restores them," Bloom said.
The Ronald McDonald House has remained open throughout the pandemic. To adjust to the pandemic, volunteers serve single-serve meals to families made in conventional kitchens.
Bloom said when anyone donates meals to the house, it helps ease the stress of the pandemic.
