Guests welcomed back to The Land of Oz

Hundreds of people made the trek up Beech Mountain to lose themselves in The Land of Oz Friday.

BEECH MOUNTAIN, N.C. -- Hundreds of people made the trek up Beech Mountain to lose themselves in The Land of Oz Friday.

The former theme park is now open every Friday in June. Guests walked the yellow brick road with Dorothy as their guide, reliving moments from the classic film about a young girl and her unlikely friends finding what they needed was always inside of them all along.

"It's magical. You walk through there, and even us as volunteers, you walk down through there and you can feel the magic." said volunteer Wayne Wineager. "And we hope they walk away with that special feeling that Dorothy had when she walked the yellow brick road, because it brings out the kid inside. That's exactly what it is. It brings out the kid in them."

Tours are limited, and tickets must be purchased on The Land of Oz website.
