RALEIGH, N.C. -- A North Carolina State Trooper sprung into action when a driver flagged him down to help deliver a baby in the middle of the road in Raleigh early Monday morning.
NC State Highway Patrol posted about the exciting event on Facebook.
Sgt. W.C. Johnson was in his patrol car going south on Capital Blvd near the intersection of Highwoods Blvd when he saw an SUV in the median with its flashers on.
Highway Patrol says the driver got out of the SUV and yelled for the trooper, "I need your help - she's having a baby."
Trooper Johnson jumped into action. He helped deliver the baby and provided life-saving assistance to support the child until the fire department and EMS arrived.
Trooper Johnson stayed with mom and baby until an ambulance took them to the hospital, and even visited them at the hospital to make sure they were both okay.
Highway Patrol says mom and baby Achilles are doing well.
Way to go, Trooper Johnson and welcome to the world, baby Achilles!
