Delta to Hire 1,000 Flight Attendants

Want to travel the world for a living? Here's what you need to know to get the job.

ATLANTA — Delta is looking to hire more than 1,000 flight attendants. 

The Atlanta-based airline said in a news release on Monday that it has opened applications for new flight attendants to join the team in 2020.

"We are excited to add more talented professionals and welcome highly skilled, safety-minded problem solvers who have a passion for creating memories and connecting the world," said Allison Ausband, Delta's Senior Vice President — In-Flight Service.

The basic guidelines:

  • Applicants must have a high school degree or GED, the ability to work in the U.S., English fluency and be at least 21 years of age by Jan. 1, 2020.  
  • Since the airline flies to over 300 destinations in over 50 countries, they're also looking for applicants who have fluency in English and one of the following languages: Czech, Danish, Dutch, French, Greek, German, Italian, Japanese, and Korean. 
  • Successful candidates will complete six weeks of rigorous training located at our World Headquarters in Atlanta, Ga. early next year.

It can be competitive: in 2016, Delta picked fewer than 1% of the 35,000 video interviews it reviewed and 6,000 in-person interviews it conducted, according to the Atlanta Business Chronicle.

According to the company, the "best" resumes include:

  • One plus years of work experience in personalized customer service, patient care or similar role
  • Experience in a role ensuring the safety and/or care of others
  • Completion of a degree beyond high school or GED

The company has 13 flight attendant bases including Atlanta, New York, Los Angeles, Detroit, Minneapolis-St. Paul and Seattle.
