Triad police departments, local governments looking to hire

Guilford County was among the agencies hiring, they're trying to fill 300 government positions.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Hiring fairs happen often these days, but today GuilfordWorks is hosting an event aimed at anyone looking to work in the public sector. 

The career fair was held Thursday featuring a wide range of employers, some of which are listed below: 

  • Greensboro Police Dept. 
  • Greensboro Fire Dept. 
  • Guilford Metro 911
  • Greensboro Libraries 
  • Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department 
  • Guilford Co. Sheriff's Office 
  • Guilford Co. Animal Resource Center 
  • Guilford Co. Parks and Recreation Department 
  • High Point Police Dept. 
  • High Point Fire Dept. 
  • High Point Parks and Rec 

The Greensboro Police Department, looking to fill 100 positions. They currently are training 50 people, but they'll still need to hire 50 others. 

"Once we have the positions filled it's going to help the community have more officers patrol the area," said Brian Birkemeier with GPD. 

In Guilford County 300 government positions are open.

"Some of the areas we really want to target are emergency services, animal services, social services, and public health," said Human Resources Director Sandra Cheeks. 

The Guilford County Public Health Department is also looking to hire. They're in need of nurses.

The Guilford County Sheriff's Department is looking to fill 70 positions, mostly deputies and detention officers.

"It has been quite difficult just navigating through COVID trying to find a way to reach potential candidates for the two job positions that we're hiring for. Because, when everything shut down with COVID it wasn't a lot of recruiting events or any recruiting events," said Sgt. Buchanan with the Guildford County Sheriff's Office.
