HARTFORD, Conn. — The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a recall of over 1,200 cases of frozen raspberries found to be contaminated with Hepatitis A.
Around 1,260 cases of James Farm frozen raspberries are being recalled by Exportadora Comramar; they made the announcement Saturday.
The affected lots were sold in Restaurant Depot and Jetro locations in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and Delaware.
The affected product can be identified by UPC Code: 76069501010 and Lot Code - 22-165 with "Best if used by" date June 14, 2024, and "Product of Chile". They came in a 10 lb. carton that contained two 5 lb. bags.
The FDA found the presence of Hepatitis A in the raspberries after testing, and no illnesses or reactions have been reported regarding this product.
Hepatitis A is a contagious liver disease that can vary in severity of illness. Mild illness can last a few weeks with serious illness lasts several months. Symptoms could start within 15-50 days of exposure and include fatigue, abdominal pain, jaundice, abnormal liver tests, dark urine, and pale stool.
A vaccine can be taken within two weeks of exposure to prevent illness. Those who may have eaten the frozen raspberries are advised to contact a healthcare professional or local health department.
Consumers who bought the raspberries are advised to not eat them and to either throw them away or return them for a full refund.
