GREENSBORO, N.C. — Is writing checks so yesterday? We're having a debate about who still writes checks. It all started on a bright summer day, when Chief Meteorologist Tim Buckley tweeted that he had to write a check, but had to dust off his check."

Regardless of age, not everyone uses online for everything, especially banking.

According to echeck.org, no one is sure when the first check was written or chiseled into a piece of wood or stone. The site says "the earliest evidence of deposits subject to cheque pertains to medieval Italy and Catalonia." That's 500 years ago!

Checks are also targets of millions of scams, many centered around fake checks.

Many of you responded.

The BBB has the anatomy of a fake check. Check out the picture here. Also, know this: just because a bank cashes a check and the money gets credited to your account does not mean the check is good. Federal banking rules require a bank to make the funds available when you deposit a check.

Whether you still use them or now, it safe to say checks are a great way to access your money.
