SEMMES, Ala. (AP) — An Alabama teacher says she was sent home from school to change her shirt, which read "just pray."

But Mobile County Public Schools Superintendent Martha Peek tells WALA-TV the school's principal asked Chris Burrell to change her shirt or put on a sweater Monday, as teachers and students aren't permitted to wear clothes reflecting religious beliefs.

In a Facebook post that's been shared more than 800 times, Burrell says she was wearing her "Monday feel-good shirt," and not trying to promote religion. She said she purchased the shirt during the "Aubreigh's Army" fundraiser, which raised money to help an 11-year-old girl with an inoperable brain tumor last year.

Peek says that the principal didn't know of the connection to the fundraiser, but still "would have had to exercise her judgment."
