GREENSBORO, N.C. — When there's an emergency, you want the ability to call 911.
You might think you need a phone, but an Apple watch can be a useful alternative. There's an Emergency S-O-S button on the right side of the Apple Watch. If you're not careful, it can call 9-1-1 without you knowing it.
A supervisor with Guilford Metro says they do get false emergency calls from Apple watches. They say they get the emergency alert, then call back, and when the person answers they tell the dispatcher they accidentally hit the button on the watch. That button doesn't need to be activated all the time.
Here's a breakdown on how to get there.Go into the watch app on an iPhone, then tap "EMERGENCY SOS." Once you're there, you can turn off the "Hold Side Button."
