Class Of 2019 | List Of College Commencements in the Triad, NC

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Spring is in the air, which means warmer weather, the return of baseball and of course college graduations! 

A fresh class of young students is eager to go out and make a difference in the world.

Here's a list of confirmed commencement speakers at several North Carolina universities and colleges. 

May 4 

Guilford College (9:00 a.m. on Founders Lawn) 

Commencement on Guilford College's Founders Lawn. Commencement speaker Dr. Johnnetta Betsch Cole. 

MAY 9 

Forsyth Tech (5: 00 p.m. Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum)

Doors are scheduled to open at 4:00 p.m. and the ceremony begins at 5:00 p.m.

May 10

Winston-Salem State University (8:45 a.m. at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum)

The graduation ceremony will begin promptly at 8:45 a.m. and it is expected to last approximately two hours. 

University of North Carolina Greensboro ( 10 a.m. at Greensboro Coliseum)  

Commencement will take place at 10:00 a.m. The commencement speaker will be Ken Jeong. 

Rockingham County Community College (10 a.m. at Robert C. Keys Gymnasium)

Tickets are required for guest seating in the Gymnasium. Additional guest seating is available on a first-come, first served basis in the Advanced Technologies Building Auditorium, where the ceremony will be streamed live; no tickets are needed for seating in the Auditorium.
The ceremony will also be streamed live on the College’s Facebook page.

Davidson County Community College (6 p.m. ceremony to be held in front of the Mendenhall Building, Davidson Campus ) 

May 11

North Carolina A&t State University (8:30 a.m. Greensboro Coliseum)

There will two commencement ceremonies for Spring 2019. Both ceremonies will be at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex. The undergraduate ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m. The Graduate ceremony will start at 1:30 p.m. 

The undergraduate commencement speaker will be Willie A. Deese - Retired President, Merck Manufacturing Division. 

Graduate commencement speaker will be Marshall M. Williams - Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army.

Hight Point University (9 a.m. on HPU's Roberts Hall Lawn)

Dr. Michio Kaku, theoretical physicist, co-founder of String Field Theory, best-selling author, renowned futurist and popularizer of science, will deliver this year’s Commencement address.

May 20 

Wake Forest University (9 a.m. Hearns Plaza)

The commencement speaker will be Frederick J. Ryan Jr., publisher, and chief executive officer of The Washington Post. 

May 24

Elon University (Begins 8:45 a.m. on Scott Plaza)  

8:45 a.m. — 2019 Commencement Exercises start with an outdoor ceremony on Scott Plaza. This is a university-wide event for all graduates, families, and guests that will include a message from the class president, the commencement address and the president’s charge to graduates. Tickets are not required for this ceremony and there is no limit to the number of guests who may attend.

  • Guest seating will be available at 7 a.m.
  • Graduates should arrive at Alumni Gym by 7:45 a.m.

Two separate diploma ceremonies will be held in Schar Center (tickets are required for Schar Center events):

11:30 a.m. — Diploma Ceremony for Elon College, The College of Arts & Sciences & School of Education

  • Graduate Check-In (Lower Level Practice Gym): 10:15 a.m.
  • Concourse Guest Entrances (ticket required) open at 10:30 a.m.

3:30 p.m. — Diploma Ceremony for The Martha and Spencer Love School of Business & School of Communications

  • Graduate Check-In (Lower Level Practice Gym): 2:15 p.m.
  • Concourse Guest Entrances (ticket required) open at 2:30 p.m.

Diploma ceremonies will be approximately 2 hours long.
