‘Greensboro Beautiful' Takes Pride in Making Parks Look Like Eye Candy

The organization emphasizes that the impact of these green areas "goes beyond the surface of physical beauty."

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WFMY) – Greensboro’s public gardens are a free space for entertainment and wellness for the Triad community.

Greensboro Beautiful is a non-profit organization that supports four of the public gardens in the city: Tanger Family Bicentennial Garden, Bog Garden at Benjamin Park, Greensboro Arboretum, and Gateway Gardens.

The organization emphasizes that the impact of these green areas “goes beyond the surface of physical beauty.”

Its efforts to continually enhance the gardens also brings a sense of pride in the community they are located in, and offer a space for education, environmental conservation, health and recreation through various free events.

The organization was incorporated in 1968 as a non-profit, and all of its conservation and beautification efforts rely on private and community donations.

To celebrate its 50th Anniversary, Greensboro Beautiful is hosting a number of events throughout the year.

Here is a short list of events remaining for 2018:

  • William Mangum Paintings of the Gardens (April 29 through December)

In collaboration with local artist William Mangum, Greensboro Beautiful is commissioning te artists to create four signature paintings -- original artwork of the Tanger Family Bicentennial Garden, the Bog Garden at Benjamin Park, the Greensboro Arboretum, and Gateway Gardens.

Reproductions will be made available at Greensboro Beautiful's events throughout 2018 which will be provided as a thank you for donations made to Greensboro Beautiful, with 100% of the contribution going to benefit Greensboro Beautiful.

  • Art in the Arboretum (Sunday, October 7, 2018 12pm-5pm)

“A juried art and fine craft event featuring fifty artists from throughout the region exhibiting their hand-crafted offerings in an outdoor gallery. Also featuring entertainment on three stages, interactive art activities, Garden Quest, Art Bark, monarch butterfly exhibit, honey bee exhibit, and two food courts. Three local garden centers will also be participating with plants available for sale. Admission is FREE!”
