When 7-year-old Dallas Isley, a second-grader at Oak Ridge Elementary, overheard his grandmother talking about The Green Team Helping Hands, Inc, he immediately knew he wanted to get involved.

The non-profit organization provides over 300 families and homeless individuals with meals, proper clothing, and basic toiletries.

Dallas approached his mom about ways he could bring a little light into homeless people’s lives this holidays season.

He decided to start a food, clothing and toiletries drive and had his classroom join in on the cause.

Between November 26 and December 7, Dallas collected 317 items to help feed those in need and keep them warm for Christmas. They included: 19 toboggans, 37 pairs of socks, 39 pairs of gloves, 7 scarfs, 5 blankets, 4 women’s warm jackets, 12 cups of noodles, 10 packs of noodles, 20 packs of cookies, 26 packs of whole grain bars, 10 packs of peanuts, 15 packs of pretzels/cheese dippers, 36 packs of peanut butter/cheese crackers, 7 honey buns, 20 Cans of Vienna Sausages, 3 boxes of Mac N Cheese, 13 can goods, 6 fruit cups, 8 toiletry bags, 4 hand sanitizers and a head band.

According to founder Ashley Benton she “kept fighting tears as I was talking to him and his family because young Dallas has a calling on his life and I could feel it!”

According to his mother Jordan Needham, Dallas was only able to get his classroom involved this time around because of the time restriction, but he hopes to get the whole school involved next year.

“He is a VISIONARY!” Benton said about Dallas in an email with WFMY News 2.

“If this second grader can collect all of these items, the world better get ready because he’s about to change it!” the hunger and homelessness advocate added.
