Terminally Ill 8-Year-Old Girl Gets New Puppy After Companion Puppy Stolen

Dakaia named her new 9-week-old American Bully puppy "Bailey." They are planning to get him trained as an emotional support dog.

BURLINGTON, N.C. (WFMY)-- An 8-year-old with terminal cancer was given a new puppy, after her companion puppy was stolen.

Dakaia Gray's 11-week-old American Bully named "Annabella May" was stolen on August 4th. She was training to be a service dog.

The Burlington Police Department has not been able to find "Annabella May," but they are still looking.

Now Dakaia has a new American Bully pup named "Bailey." He was given to her by Thomas Holmes, a Burlington man who saw the story about someone stealing her service puppy.

"He woke up that morning and seen her story and said he just cried his eyes out and said it was meant to be," said Shala Browning, Dakaia's mom.

Browning is overwhelmed with the amount of support they've received from folks across the world, including Australia.

"Reaching out just to say hey you know, we're here. We heard you and you know we're here to support you. If anything, you know, we could do for you guys," said Browning.

Now they're focusing on training and enjoying Bailey. "He's a cutie, so we're entertained all day long for sure. He's very active. He's got a whole lot of personality," said Browning.

But Dakaia still holds hope Annabella May will come home.

"My mom says if we find Annabella and we have this dog, we can keep both of them," said Dakaia.
