GREENSBORO, NC (WFMY) -- A teen was hit by a car in Greensboro on Wednesday, December 5th while walking his dog.
According to the Greensboro Police Department, the incident occurred at the intersection of S. Elm -Eugene and W. Lakefield Dr. shortly after 7:40 p.m.
Once on the scene, officers located the teen suffering from serious injuries.
The teen named Emmanuel Gomez was transported to a Moses Cone, but his 8-week-old husky dog died at the scene.
Sister Melissa Gomez says 15-year-old Emmanuel Gomez had surgery on his leg on Thursday morning. He also has two broken ribs and a dislocated shoulder.
"He got to the emergency room needing a surgery urgently, or else he could’ve gotten a leg amputated," Melissa said.
Melissa said he'll be in the hospital for the next week, and recovering for months.
"It's really hard for him, every time he wakes up and is able to talk for 2 or 3 seconds all he can say is he feels weak and that everything hurts."
She says the family hasn't told him his husky is dead yet, so he can focus on recovering. He just got the puppy he named 'Azura' a couple of weeks ago. Azura means sky blue, just like the husky's eyes.
The suspect is believed to be driving a dark colored older model 2-door coupe.
Melissa has this message for whoever the driver who fled may be:
"I hope he thinks about what he did, he or she, whoever it was and they come clean because it’s only going to make it worse."
Melissa said the doctors think Emmanuel will need another surgery on his leg.
"He’s really hurt and I need the help of whoever saw anything, even if you don’t think its going to make a difference, it might make a difference."
The Greensboro Police Department Crash Reconstruction Unit is conducting this ongoing investigation.
